This film charts my life through a three year window from 2017 to 2020. It maps my personal and musical explorations from first moving to Dublin, my first headline gig in Whelan's, then finding a tribe and a sense of belonging, and the build up to and recording of my debut album - ‘A Beginner’s Guide To Bravery’ - culminating in a sold out show at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin back in January of this year.

‘Alchemy & Prose’ is a story about the feeling of hope that Music brings to our lives. Creating communities, a sense of identity and the realisation of dreams. This is the end of the beginning.” - David Keenan, October 2020.

‘Alchemy & Prose: a concert film’ takes the viewer on an adventure with David Keenan, the gifted young singer and storyteller from Dundalk. From fuzzy footage of early open-mic nights, through sleeping in ditches and building a live following and scene-stealing kids, before arriving at Dublin’s historic and beloved Olympia Theatre on January 13th 2020.

The film is a collaboration between David Keenan and The Collective, the Dublin-based “creative family”, who have previously directed and produced his music videos for David’s songs, ‘Altar Wine’ and ‘The Healing’. The Collective were also responsible for the recent Fontaines D.C. film ‘Sold For Parts’.

The directors add: “As filmmakers we exist to be trusted in the most vulnerable spaces of creation to hopefully unearth something true and old. To be let-in by David and everyone around the making of the record was an honour and an experience we hope the magic of which translates on screen.”

Who knows when we will be able to gather, join hands and sing together again? Until then, come lose yourself in ‘Alchemy & Prose’.
