Rodrigo y Gabriela - Armando Manzanero

At the close of 2019, Rodrigo y Gabriela were invited to participate in a tribute concert and album celebrating the work of Mexican composer Armando Manzanero.

Widely considered the premier Mexican romantic composer of the postwar era and one of the most successful composers of Latin America, Manzanero received a Lifetime Achievement Award at The Grammys in 2014.

His melodies are part of the musical fabric of Mexico, and Rodrigo y Gabriela did not hesitate in expressing their wish to be part of the celebrations. The pandemic interrupted plans for the album and concert, which was originally scheduled for October 2020. Then Mr. Manzanero was admitted to hospital in Mexico City before Christmas, and died, from COVID-19, on December 28th, aged 85.

First recorded in 1969, Te Extrano (Miss You) has been recorded by Andrea Bocelli, Paquito D'Rivera, Eddie Gomez and many others. Rodrigo y Gabriela's beautiful reading of this classic romantic ballad is a tender and heartfelt tribute to one of their most-feted fellow Mexican musicians.

Rodrigo y Gabriela - ‘Te Extraño’ is released on Rubyworks on Friday 5th February 2021.
